<<Pulse Films>>director Mike Piscitelli's new short film, “Waiting for Tomorrow to Wake Up,” captures his signature still photographic style while channeling the creative influence of filmmakers like Larry Clark and Mike Mills.
The short was commissioned by the magazine Monster Children (monsterchildren.com), which has previously worked with Mike on photographic campaigns. The short premiered on Wednesday, December 12th in Los Angeles at the launch event of the magazine's 37th issue (on sale December 14th), which also features photographs from the film.
In the film, a group of teenaged Los Angelinos muse on love, answering questions that explore their relationship with friends, their city and themselves. The backdrop for their thoughts unfolds over one day and night, as they attempt to entertain themselves in a city that doesn't cater to those under 21. The result is both universal and deeply personal - carefree and heartfelt - an examination of what it means to be young in Los Angeles today.
Mike says, "We wanted to capture the feeling you have around 17, 18, when you’re trying to have the best time of your life every day, but you don’t have much to work with: you cant get into bars, only one of your friends has a car, no one works so there’s no reason to sleep and you want to be in love with something."
